Putnam Kingsmen Football 41-50 St. Helens

St. Helens edged out Putnam 50-41 in a high-scoring Northwest Oregon Conference (5A) football game Thursday night at Putnam High School in Milwaukie, Oregon. The back-and-forth contest produced plenty of offense on both sides, but the Kingsmen couldn't hold off the visiting Lions down the stretch. The loss drops Putnam to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, leaving the Kingsmen in a precarious spot as the league schedule heats up. Despite the defeat, the 41 points Putnam put on the board showed the offense is capable of competing with anyone in the conference. Giving up 50, however, is a concern the coaching staff will look to address on the defensive side of the ball. With several league games remaining, Putnam still controls its own destiny in the NWOC standings. The Kingsmen will need to tighten things up defensively and string together a winning stretch if they hope to stay in the playoff conversation. Next up, Putnam returns to action next week looking to bounce back.
