Southridge Skyhawks Softball 6-9 Barlow
The Skyhawks couldn't hold off a determined Barlow squad Thursday afternoon, falling 9-6 in their home softball opener at Southridge High. The non-league loss drops the Skyhawks to 0-1-1 as they search for their first win of the young spring season.
Southridge showed offensive capability by putting six runs on the board against the Bruins, but Barlow's nine-run output proved too much to overcome on a chilly March afternoon. The defeat comes after the Skyhawks opened their season with a tie, making Thursday's result another frustrating near-miss in these early weeks.
While the final score wasn't what the home crowd hoped for, the Skyhawks demonstrated they can compete offensively in what should be a competitive Metro League campaign ahead. Head coach will look to build on the positive offensive showing while tightening up defensively.
Southridge returns to action early next week as they continue working toward that elusive first victory. The Skyhawks have shown flashes of potential through two games and will aim to put together a complete performance soon.
